Taxation Without Representation in the Nation's Capital
Residents of Washington, D.C., may soon, for the first time, have full
voting representation in Congress. The D.C. Voting Rights Act would
give the District its first full voting representative in the House.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

An Action Agenda for the 110th Congress
There will be many opportunities in this new Congress to advocate for
fair policies that will increase women's equality and economic
well-being. The legislative and policy initiatives listed here are
among those we'll be advocating in the coming session of Congress.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Running Faster to Stay in Place
Women's credentials are on the rise in every state, but the wage gap
isn't closing - it's actually growing in 15 states. Check out the
Institute for Women's Policy Research's new report, which lays out the
best and worst state economies for women.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Take Action: Send a Message of Support to Nancy Pelosi
You can be part of history – make that herstory! On January 4, Nancy
Pelosi will become the first woman Speaker of the House, and you can
be part of the celebration. We will hand deliver your personal message
of support to the new Speaker, along with thousands of others in a
giant card.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

United Nations Fails on Promises of Gender Equality
The United Nations once again has failed to elect a woman
Secretary-General, despite the fact that many qualified women leaders
had been identified as potential candidates and thousands of women's
rights activists sent messages urging U.N. Security Council members to
select a woman.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Lame Duck House Fails to Pass Abortion Anesthesia Bill
The House of Representatives has defeated H.R. 6099, the fetal
anesthesia bill. Though the bill did not get the two-thirds vote
necessary to pass, it is still disturbing that this deceptive,
scientifically unsound bill received ANY votes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Latest Attack on Abortion Rights Based on Scare Tactics and
Questionable Science
The House of Representatives voted last Wednesday on a cynical,
opportunistic bill based on scare tactics and questionable science.
This is nothing new for the 109th Congress -- an alliance of
legislators we can't say goodbye to soon enough.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Voters Show Strong Support for Reproductive Rights and Minimum Wage
Voters considered many crucial ballot measures on Tuesday, covering a
range of political issues, including abortion access, parental
notification for abortion, same-sex marriage, affirmative action and
minimum wage. For women's rights advocates there were wins as well as
losses.--> Down to the Wire!
We will soon have our final chance to stop the right wing's war on
women and on our democracy by electing members to Congress who will
challenge that agenda instead of enabling it. We need your help.

Below the Belt: Second in Line
In her biweekly Below the Belt column, Kim Gandy writes: "Where will
you be at 12 noon on January 4th? I'll be on Capitol Hill, watching
Nancy Pelosi being sworn in as Speaker of the House and second in
line, after the vice president, for the presidency of the United
States.... But while we have many reasons to raise our glasses to the
new Congressional leadership, there are still about 267 reasons to
curb our enthusiasm."

organizations will be marching on January 27, 2007, bringing the
mandate for peace to the Capitol. Join us!

Congress Faces the "Truth"
The Senate passed a bill last week directing that a statue of
Sojourner Truth be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building, the first
African-American woman to be so honored.
